Splatter - From Hell To Eternity

Hard rockin'' Thrash-Punkabilly featuring ex-members of Elvis Hitler

Formed from the break up of psychobilly band Elvis Hitler from Detroit, Mi. Splatter boasted Jim Leedy on vocals, John Defever on guitar, and drummer Todd Glass. Edgy and humorous lyrics lifted this band up and knocked everybody else down. The style was fast and hard.

Those Poor Bastards - Hellfire Hymns

"Poor," "sorry," and "wretched" aren't necessarily derogative anymore as the gothic country duo Those Poor Bastards continues to prove with their second full-length, "Hellfire Hymns."

Where "Songs of Desperation" (2005) would easily accommodate a self-hanging in the dank cellar of some decrepit house in the long-forgotten South, "Hellfire Hymns" instead dabbles in utter dementia and dwells on murderous hopelessness and psychotic spiritual redemption. What could be more appealing than that?

From beginning to end, the album is a collection of pleasant schizophrenia. Over hauntingly giddy melodies played on seemingly broken instruments heard from another room, Lonesome Wyatt croons a vocal orgy of Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, the Rat Pack, and a dying crow with throat cancer. Layered under Wyatt is the eerie vocal reinforcement and nonchalant iterations of his musical partner, the Minister.

Together, they sing in a flavor of children's jingles gone horrifically awry, the lyrics only comparable to Shel Silverstein regaining consciousness with a morbid hangover.

"Darlin', darlin', darlin', I've got blood on my hands/I hope it ain't from you /I hope it ain't from you," Wyatt sings in the innocently sinister "Blood on my Hands."

Along with the vocal hissings of quite possibly the creepiest song ever written, "The Dust Storm," the record's high points include the vocally-fluctuating traditional song "The Hellbound Train," and a cynicist's first-person account of dying alone in an auto accident "Lost on the Way."

Forged in a world of wretched moral decay, "Hellfire Hymns" proves not to be your run-of-the-mill old-time backwoods sister-kissing country, but instead this poor old record stands as a true testament to competent insanity.

The White Stripes

"Conquest" is a role-reversal song written by Corky Robbins and popularized in the 1950s by Patti Page. "Conquest" was also covered by The White Stripes on their 2007 album Icky Thump, which features Regulo Aldama on trumpet. Patti Page's version of "Conquest" was featured on an EBay commercial in fall 2007.

Conquest" was released as the third single from American alternative rock band The White Stripes' album Icky Thump in December 2007.[1] It was released as a series of 7-inch colored vinyl singles, each containing the track "Conquest". The tracks "It's My Fault for Being Famous," "Honey, We Can't Afford to Look This Cheap" and "Cash Grab Complications on the Matter" appear on the black, white and red version of the records, respectively, with the latter featuring an acoustic Mariachi version of "Conquest". The various B-sides were co-produced by musician Beck, who also contributed vocals and piano to "Being Famous" and slide guitar to "Honey."[1] Despite the sound of a trumpet section, Nashville-based mariachi trumpter Regulo Aldama played his part multiple times, and Jack overdubbed the recordings.[2]

Each single includes a trading card featuring famous matadors El Sloth, El Bianca Rosa or El Perdador.[1]

The vinyl singles were released in the US on December 18th and in the UK on December 31st.

A large portion of the "Conquest" vinyl singles have been mislabeled. The red and white sticker/seal on some of the sleeves actually reads "You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)" the seal of which belongs to their previous single of that name. Also, the B-Side of the red vinyl which features the song "Cash Grab Complications on the Matter" reads "Honey, We Can't Afford to Look this Cheap" on the record, which is the title of a separate B-Side on the white vinyl. The black vinyl featuring :It's My Fault for Being Famous" is mislabeled as well, with "Cash Grab Complications on the Matter" being listed as the B-Side. The Best Buy exclusive cd version features the matador being charged at by a bull.[3] The CD Version has all the track numbers the color white except for the 3rd track "Cash Grab Complications on the Matter", relating to Jack White's love for the number 3. [3]

Jack White first liked the song when he would listen to Page's hits album while working in his upholstery shop. He had wanted to cover the song for ten years when he finally did in 2007.[2]

The band also released a Spanish version of the song, re-titled "Conquista", was released on CD, 7" vinyl and download on various dates through January 2008.

Digital maxi-single (U.S. only)

1. "Conquest" - 2:48
2. "It's My Fault for Being Famous" - 2:56
3. "Cash Grab Complications on the Matter" - 3:37
4. "Honey, We Can't Afford to Look This Cheap" - 3:54
5. "Conquest" (Acoustic Mariachi Version) - 2:55

Lord Send Me An Angel 7"

Lord, Send Me an Angel" is a song by Blind Willie McTell, two versions of which were recorded on 19 September 1933 in New York. It was covered by Detroit, Michigan garage rock band, The White Stripes and released as a single in October of 2000.

The original version of the song begins with a dialogue between the singer and God. The former asks for an angel and the latter says, having no angels, He'll send "a teasin' brown". The rest of the lyrics describe the singer's promiscuity and liking for women of different races: "One woman's Atlanta yellow, the other is Macon brown, but the Statesboro blackskin will turn your damper down". The song ends with the singer addressing a lover, saying he's leaving her and that she'll be sorry she drove him away, perhaps wishful thinking judging by the way he claims to regard women.

The White Stripes' cover version features various changes to the original lyrics. Jack White's name replaces Blind Willie McTell's, and Detroit replaces Macon and Georgia as place names. Besides other minor changes in setting, the song has been lengthened with a story of Jack White seeking his lover at a train station, describing her appearance to a ticket agent, and also a warning to avoid relationships with married women, "cause their husband will grab ya, beat ya ragged as a cedar tree". The song ends in a similar fashion, the addressing a lover to tell her he's leaving her. However this time the singer warns "I'ma tell you pretty mama exactly who I am when I walk in that from door and hear that back door slam "

Foxboro Hot Tubs - Stop Drop and Roll

Product Description
Imagine a big-time punk-pop trio from the Oakland area deciding, for fun, to record a cool song that reminded them of ’60s garage rock—adventurous, reckless, and edgy but with a "doo-doo-doo" party sound. Imagine the lovechild of an unholy marriage between The Stooges and Tommy James And The Shondells. Imagine the track, "Mother Mary," leaking out and amazingly going Top 20 Modern Rock. Imagine the mysterious "new" band then deciding to release an EP for free on the Internet. Now imagine a full-length album—an actual album you can hold in your hands, just like way back before the dawn of the new millennium! Imagine Foxboro Hottubs and the album Stop Drop And Roll.

"Mother Mary" - Live

Quote from Wikipedia:

The Foxboro Hot Tubs is an American rock n' roll band. The group made its debut in December 2007 with three songs on their website. Soon after, the Foxboro Hot Tubs were discovered and subsequently made headlines, being heralded as the next secret side project of Green Day, which was later confirmed by the band themselves. Billie Joe Armstrong told NME magazine: "The only similarity between Green Day and Foxboro Hot Tubs is that we are the same band." His reasons for starting the band, also told to NME magazine, were that they "love to play music and be spontaneous, and after a few late-night jams and a few too many bottles of wine, we were inspired to record some rockin' eight-track recordings." In a similar manner to other side project The Network, Billie Joe has adopted an alter ego for Foxboro Hot Tubs - Reverend Strychnine Twitch. "Strychnine Twitch" is also mentioned in the lyrics to the title track, Stop Drop And Roll: "Sixteen and a son of a bitch/got a gun and a strychnine twitch".

Formation:

The band consists of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, Tre Cool, Jason White, Jason Freese and Kevin Preston. While the band's history is, as yet, unknown, they comprise the members of Green Day, who are performing "garage" music under a nom de plume. Fans of Foxboro Hot Tubs have noted, on the band's MySpace site, many musical similarities between the band and Green Day. Among the common traits listed are Billie Joe Armstrong's "unmistakable" vocals and guitar playing, and a rhythm section which recalls the sound of Green Day's own Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool.
On December 8, 2007, Foxboro Hot Tubs' site released the band's debut EP, Stop Drop and Roll!!!, in streaming and downloadable mp3 formats, free of charge to the listener. Five days later, on December 13, the mp3s were taken off the site, which then displayed just a clock. The mp3s were reinstated on December 16, but were again removed and replaced with the clock; later the website was changed to simply redirect to the band's MySpace.
Soon after, the song "Mother Mary" became a hit on alternative rock radio, hitting #16 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.
The name "Foxboro Hot Tubs" was explained in an email that was sent to MTV News: "The Foxboro Hot Tubs were a place we used to sneak booze and chicks into late at night. But most of the time it was just 'dude soup'." Foxboro is a housing development located in Rodeo, CA.

Eagles of Death Metal

In some parallel, '70s-groove-askew universe it's Eagles of Death Metal who are the superstars, not merely the studiously dizzy spin-off of Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and his Palm Desert school chum/lapsed journalist Jesse Hughes. Building forcefully on the charms of their '04 debut, their camaraderie foregoes ego (QOTSA mainstay Homme is EODM's drummer, pal Hughes its falsetto-voiced, ax-slinging rock star) for a retro, ambitiously naïve garage-rock-meets-boogie-down ethos that labors under the delightfully perverse misconception that the New York Dolls, Hot Chocolate and T Rex were all actually the same band - one that Muddy Waters and The Big Bopper occasionally sat in with. Less demented talents have pumped similar shtick full of self-conscious irony; here H&H simply grab it by the neck and shake furiously, yielding "I Gotta Feeling"'s Bolan boogie, the Stones-ish "I Like to Move.." and Dolls-swaggering "Keep Your Head Up," before moving onto such enticing genre demolition derby entries as "Ballad of Queen Bee and Baby Duck," "Chase the Devil" and the giddy "Shasta Beast." --Jerry McCulley

Originally they didn't even want to release an album opting to have the band's live reputation spread via word of mouth. Eventually, the trio relented and put out a self-titled six song e.p. on Sonic Unyon records in 1998.

In 1999 they released the self-produced My Love Is Bold E.P. and achieved national exposure with the single "Bounce". They were nominated for a Juno in 2000 for Best Alternative Album.

In 2001 Bad Taste Records (Lund, Sweden) released a compilation of the band's early recordings, demos, and b-sides entitled, I'm Alive and On Fire. A 5 week European tour followed to promote the release including shows at the Roskilde festival in Denmark and Hultsfred festival in Sweden. By the end of the year they had returned 2 more times, most notably as main support for the Backyard Babies.

I'm Alive and On Fire is a 2001 album by Canadian rock band Danko Jones. It collects tracks the band recorded from 1996 to 1999, including several that appeared on the EPs Danko Jones and My Love is Bold.

Backyard Babies - Stockholm Syndrome (Ltd Edition)

Backyard Babies are a hard rock/punk rock band, from Nässjö, Sweden. The band was formed in 1987, over the years they have released five studio albums and have won a Swedish Grammy. The band remains together, though they are now located in Stockholm, Sweden.

They are largely attributed with bringing sleaze rock to Scandinavia and Sweden, a scene which has spawned several bands that continues to grow today. They are a big influence on the current upsurge in sleaze rock in the UK unsigned scene, with Disarm calling them a big influence. Their single "Minus Celsius" appears as a playable bonus track in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

Formed in 1987, The Babies (as they are known by fans) comprised of singer and bassist Tobbe, guitarist Dregen, guitarist Johan Blomqvist and drummer Peder Carlsson. They were then called "Tyrant". Together they played several live shows in their local area and recorded a rough demo.

Tobbe was replaced in the group by a young punk rock frontman; Nicke Borg. Johan then started to play bass instead. They changed their name to Backyard Babies and recorded two more demos and did a national tour of Sweden. The band self-released a debut extended player, titled Something to Swallow. This got them signed in 1993 by Swedish label Megarock Records.

Backyard Babies released their debut album, Diesel & Power, in 1994. The music on it took influences from rock, punk and blues. In addition to the album the band also released the "Electric Suzy" single, as a b-side it featured a cover of "Taxi Driver" by Hanoi Rocks.

However, not long after the album was released the band was put on hiatus, as guitarist Dregen formed the garage rock band The Hellacopters. Dregen released two albums with the Hellacopters; "Supershitty to the Max!" and "Payin' the Dues".

On 15 October 2002, Backyard Babies guitarist Dregen was on the front pages of Swedish national newspapers. After returning home from a club where he was DJing, he and his friend were assaulted, robbed (CDs, mobile phones and money was taken) and knocked unconscious. Dregen suffered a broken jaw but the band continued on with the recording of their next album; "Stockholm Syndrome". The album was viewed by some fans as a return towards a more energetic and raw sound, the album won them a Swedish Grammy.

The Screamin Yeehaws - The Bottle And The Band

What's that loud, rude noise you hear comin' outta them speakers of that dirty rock club you've been afraid to go in all yer piddly little life? It ain't your Momma's eight track collection and it ain't your Daddy's doo-wop. It's THE SCREAMIN YEEHAWS dammit. SoCals newest revved up and ugly SouthernFriedPunkRawk at its finest. Get ready cause these boys are comin to a town near you, wherever the hell yall are. Fronted by former Red Eye Gravy drummer Nick Bone, who was born and bred on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, the band is an aggressive blend of honky-tonk and rocknroll topped off with a punk angst that's sure to get yer ass movin', feet tappin, and dizzy as a longtail cat in a room full of rockin' chairs. On guitar is none other than Silent Henry of Pawnshop Cowboys fame, Noisepie and a slew of other San Diego bands. Same story for Jimmy Dean on the four string sonofabitch. Jimmy has played with several local and national acts including Flinch and Dishwater as well as being a respected studio musician. Backing Jimmy up on the skins, the Big Dick Daddy from Cincinnati, Jonny Cuz. With 2 full-length 13 track recordings, "THREE CHORDS AND A CLOUD OF DUST" and "THE BOTTLE AND THE BAND" and slated for recording more material, the boys have quickly become a hot ticket both locally and regionally. Anyhoo...the fellas debut was Mar. 6th, 2004, opening for punk legends Agent Orange here in San Diego and the response was a resounding "gawddamn...yew boys kick ass!!!". Since their debut, the boys have shared the stage with other national acts including Throwrag, Manic Hispanic, Peter Pan SpeedRock and Wayne Hancock just to name a few. They've turned heads in Austin, New Orleans, Hollywood, San Francisco, Las Vegas, hell, they've turned heads in trailer parks in the middle of nowhere. They've befriended every local act from San Fran to New Orleans and traveled the whole West Coast quadrant including TX, AZ, NV, No.CA, OR, WA, been through the South, recently finished two East Coast tours and preparing to head back out. Collecting fans one beer and one bruise at a time, it's pretty damn certain you'll be hearing alot about THE SCREAMIN YEEHAWS. If you see this act live and don't feel inclined to "scream yeehaw" absolutely guilt free ...we'll kiss yer ass. We don't expect to be puckerin' up anytime soon. The Tombstones - Twang From The Grave

THE TOMBSTONES A BRIEF HISTORY and timeline........ Founded in 1985 by frontman and guitarist Stevie Tombstone, the band performed its unique brand of swampabilly rock. While cutting their teeth in the punk rock scene, the TOMBSTONES played with the likes of CIRCLE JERKS, STRAY CATS, DIVINE HORSEMEN, D.R.I , LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH, BAD BRAINS and many more. The original lineup {PAT PARKER, CURT ROULETTE& JACK ROSS} first appeared on their self released cassette "Grave Matter" and then on the comp "Make the City Grovel in its Dust " with the song "Nobody" a mournful tune reminiscent of early GUN CLUB. This tune was later covered by STIV BATORS of DEAD BOYS fame on his last release in France in 1996. Johnny Thunders and Dee Dee Ramone also performed on this track. In 1988 the TOMBSTONES released "Preachin, Prayin, Guitar Playin"with the departure of Ross & Roullette .With the addition of WILL PLATT on bass, the Twilight Records release fared well in the U.S. and Europe. Over the years the line up changed from time to time as the TOMBSTONES struggled with the usual trials of self abuse and shifting labels and management. Two more albums would be recorded in the following years. Some of Stevie's bandmates include JASON & The SCORCHERS bassist Jeff Johnson and Mark Michaels of FASTER PUSSYCAT. Shortly after being signed to Relativity Records, Stevie buys a tombstone for father of the blues, ROBERT JOHNSON, and delivers it himself{along with Johnny Shines and Rick Richards} to Greenwood, Mississippi and is slammed in the press for "disrespectful behavior". Faced with the onset of grunge rock ,rap and the passing of Will Platt, the TOMBSTONES disbanded as Stevie pursued his solo career, releasing 3 solo albums. His latest "7:30 A.M." reached number one on the XM Satellite Radio"CROSS-COUNTRY" channel . In 2004 Stevie appeared on the Cash Tribute "Dear Johhny" and is exposed to the resurgent psychobilly and punk audience. Soon thereafter the Pennsylvania band the LONESOME KINGS cover the Tombstone's psychobilly number "Jailhouse Tattoo." 20 years later and after many requests Stevie decides to release many unheard TOMBSTONES tracks as well as material from the Twilight EP, this collection is "TWANG FROM THE GRAVE' . After the release of "TWANG"the band began touring in support with bassist Bobby Daniel and Concombre Zombie drummer Destin Pledger. After both went back to work with their mainstay acts, the TOMBSTONES resumed touring with new recruits KILLENE {ex Sinpusher} on bass guitar and KENNY WAGNER on drums{ex Honky, Halfway to Gone}.The trio completed three west coast tours, two southeast tours and one east coast.Several new studio tracks have been recorded and are scheduled for release on upcoming compilations. No plans have been made for tours in the near future with the exception of special events .
Stevie and Killene are currently working on the new Stevie Tombstone solo release. In the meantime keep a look out for Stevie and Killene on the new BLACK EYED VERMILLION tracks(2007) on which Stevie produced three cuts and penned one.Stevie also makes a brief appearance with THE HICKIODS (2007) as well.

The Clash - Chaos In New York (2 Discs)

Quote:

Info

The full 24 track live show from Bonds International Casino, New York on 4th June, 1981. The Outro is Willy Williams' Armagideon Time (though this is not a proper "outro". It is just the track added to the end, not what was played as the band left the stage).
Review

Pirate Radio Numero Uno are doing what CBS should have done - that is, releasing all this excellent Clash material in superb professional artwork. This is a must item to have. I received this show from Alan, and I highly recommend you buy a copy for yourself. It's the full unedited show from the 4th of June at Bonds, four of the songs from this having made official releases and the quality of the sound is on par with those releases.

The show is blistering from start to finish. Excellent performances of the songs, especially London Calling and The Magnificent Seven. Ivan Meets G.I. Joe is particularly faithful to the studio version as well and you'll notice the drumming becomes a tad weaker as Topper diverts his efforts to singing and remembering the lyrics! The Guns Of Brixton is a truly excellent version. Police & Thieves deserves a mention - there's a bit of a pause before it kicks in "Yeah this is Police & Thieves" - and Charlie Don't Surf is one of the best live versions. The band seem to struggle a bit performing Broadway, but a great version can be found on the London Lyceum 1981 show. In total there are eleven tracks from Sandinista!, which is nearly half the set, and what with the addition of Radio Clash - again perhaps the best live performance of this song - it leaves little room for older material. Never fear though, because White Man is in there and is excellent (though there is a slight glitch in the recording 1 minute 38 seconds in) and the traditional near the end track Janie Jones is another excellent performance. Complete Control is the exact same version as that which appeared on the official live album - they also get the date wrong in the inner notes saying it was June 13th. A great performance, one of the best of this great song.

The sound is more refined than it is on the Bonds 1981 CD, but I think not as good. The mix is different, and Mick's backing vocals (not his lead) amongst other things are a lot quieter here than on the Bonds 1981 CD (in fact, barely audible at times). For example, during Mag 7, you can hardly hear him shouting "You Lot" yet on the Bonds 1981 disc it is as loud as Joe's voice. Mick's lead guitar is also a bit quieter, you can tell in The Leader for example. The sound on both these boots is excellent, and it's good they each have a different mix. This one concentrating more on the complexities of the music and suchlike - the guitar is a lot clearer, and the finer percussion instruments are too, whereas the Bonds 1981 one just goes for sheer power and volume. In fact, it would be safe to say this one just has a more relaxed sound to it. It's interesting to listen to both of them at the same time as they are quite different, but the Bonds 1981 CD does have the better sound, if not for any other reason than for Mick's backing vocals.

As well as the full show, the time between each song is also present, for instance when Joe says "We got a new toy behind the kit here" before The Call Up starts. The interference that is present on the Bonds 1981 CD on One More Time and Brand New Cadillac is not here, which is good. Also welcome here is the original version of Armagideon Time by Willy Williams. The Clash's cover is so famous that it is sometimes thought they wrote the song. Overall, a superb package to get hold of, and very highly recommended.
